Jess & Evan’s Romantic Yellow Wedding at Rockledge Terrace in Boaz, AL

Jess and Evan’s summer wedding at Rockledge Terrace in Boaz, Alabama was everything warm, joyful, and sentimental. With a radiant yellow color palette, the sweetest pup you’ve ever seen, and so many heartfelt moments, this day is one I’ll never forget.

As a wedding photographer based in North Alabama, I’m lucky to capture love stories that feel so genuine and Jess and Evan’s day was just that.

A Stormy Start That Cleared for the Sweetest First Look

When my second shooter and I arrived at Rockledge Terrace, the skies were already looking a little moody. About 20 minutes after we began photographing Jess’s gorgeous flatlays and wedding details, the skies opened up. Thunder, lightning, and some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen on a wedding day came pouring down.

But here’s the magic of their day: by the time we were ready to head outside for Jess and Evan’s first look, the rain cleared up beautifully. It turned out to be the perfect window for portraits and their ceremony, with not another drop for the rest of the day.

Getting Ready with the Girls (and Ruby!)

Jess spent the morning surrounded by her bridesmaids, all dressed in matching yellow pajama sets that were too cute. Jess wore a silky white pajama set and had her hair and makeup done by the talented team at Re-Look Artistry. She looked like a dream even before stepping into her dress!

And of course, we can’t forget Ruby, their golden retriever, who was a very important part of the morning. Ruby was truly the best girl being calm, curious, and clearly knew it was a special day. She wanted to be in every photo and happily curled up nearby while Jess and her bridesmaids got ready. She even made an appearance in several portraits and stole the show every time.

Beautiful Details and Sentimental Moments

Jess had an eye for the sweetest details, from her watercolor invitation that featured the venue, to her tulip-filled bouquet in soft yellows, greens, and whites by Delia Harrow. Her dress featured delicate bow details on the straps, and she paired it with shoes from Shein and a classic veil from Amazon that framed her look perfectly.

Once everyone was dressed, Jess did a first look with her bridesmaids, followed by one with her dad. Evan also shared a touching first look with his mom, which was such a special and emotional moment.

Then came Jess and Evan’s first look that was a private, emotional pause in the day where they exchanged vows in their own quiet way. The weather was perfect, and the soft overcast light made everything feel so calm and intimate.

The Ceremony: Short, Sweet, and Full of Love

The ceremony took place under Rockledge Terrace’s covered outdoor pavilion. Evan had tears in his eyes as Jess walked down the aisle. Their ceremony included a meaningful cord braiding ceremony as a symbol of unity, and lasted just under 15 minutes. Short and sweet, but full of emotion and intention.

Jess and Evan’s wedding party was such a fun, supportive crew! Jess had five bridesmaids, including a maid of honor, matron of honor, and a junior bridesmaid. Evan had six groomsmen and a best man. The bridesmaids carried cheerful bouquets full of baby’s breath and daisies that popped beautifully against their yellow dresses, while the guys wore soft beige suits from Barclay’s Tuxedo.

Reception Highlights: A Live Painter, Private Dinner, and Vintage Truck Vibes

After a round of family portraits, it was time to party! Jess and Evan shared their first dance as everyone cheered, followed by Jess’s father-daughter dance and Evan’s dance with his mom.

Their cake was decorated with a mini figurine of Ruby and was the cutest nod to their furry girl. And the dessert spread was insane: banana pudding, peanut butter cake, vanilla cheesecake, and more. There was truly something for everyone!

They even had a live painter capturing their reception, which was such a memorable touch for their guests and a fun surprise element.

After a private dinner, we snuck away for couples portraits and wow, the light, the love, the laughter… all of it was magic. Jess changed into the most adorable midi reception dress, and we took full advantage of the dreamy lighting and her new look.

One of the standout details? Jess’s family restored a 1960s yellow Ford truck, perfectly matching the wedding colors. It was such a cool personal touch, and we used it as a backdrop for their portraits. So iconic.

Before heading back to the reception, Jess and Evan popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate, then headed inside to dance the night away—including a high-energy singalong to Mr. Brightside. Their streamer exit was the perfect sendoff!

Off to Forever

Jess and Evan left for their honeymoon in Cancun just days later, and I couldn’t be happier for them. These two are kind, intentional, and so full of joy. Every moment of their wedding reflected that.
