If you’re looking for rainy wedding inspiration that proves love and laughter shine no matter the weather, Felicity and Blake’s wedding day at Blackberry Lane Farm in Wilsonville, Alabama is one you don’t want to miss. As an Alabama wedding photographer, I’ve seen all kinds of weather—but this day? Rain couldn’t touch the joy that radiated from these two.
Felicity and Blake booked me for eight hours of wedding photography coverage on May 10, 2025, and I arrived at 10:30 AM to full-on pouring rain. But right from the start, their attitude set the tone for a joyful, relaxed, unforgettable day. Felicity didn’t mind her dress getting muddy or her hair getting wet. She was all in, completely present, and truly the heart of the celebration. It was such a privilege to photograph a bride so full of life, even in a downpour.

The venue—Blackberry Lane Farm—was a dream for couples looking for boho, rustic wedding venues in Alabama. The outdoor ceremony space overlooked a large pond, surrounded by free-roaming cows and horses. There’s something so earthy and romantic about this spot, even in the rain (or maybe especially in the rain). The altar was draped in soft white fabric, which family and friends lovingly secured in the rain before the ceremony—one of those behind-the-scenes moments that really showed the love surrounding this couple.
Instead of traditional ceremony seating, Felicity and Blake opted for round reception tables arranged outdoors for guests to sit at during the vows. This was a unique touch that added to the laid-back, boho garden wedding vibe.
Felicity’s look was effortless and romantic: a beautiful strapless gown from David’s Bridal (a last-minute switch from a custom dress she didn’t love), paired with loose waves styled by Anna Higgins and a bouquet full of vibrant pinks, yellows, and greens by Heirbloom Flower Farm. Her bridesmaids wore soft sage dresses that perfectly matched the lush, rainy landscape.
Blake looked sharp in a deep green suit with a golden tie and pocket square—stylish and classic with a twist. Their wedding party of 10 included five bridesmaids and five groomsmen, with one of Felicity’s sisters being her flower girl (adorable!).

One of the funniest moments of the day was the fake first look, where one of Blake’s groomsmen dressed up in a gown and surprised him instead of Felicity. His reaction? Pure gold. Later, during their real first look, Felicity read a heartfelt list of “50 qualities I prayed for in a man” and shared that Blake met every single one.

The couple added so many personal touches throughout their Alabama wedding. Felicity’s family made riskrem—a traditional Norwegian dessert—in place of a cake, complete with toppings like cinnamon, strawberries, and chocolate syrup. They also prepared all the food, serving up mouthwatering street tacos with barbecue and all the fixings.
They even incorporated a German wedding tradition: the log-cutting ceremony, where Felicity and Blake sawed through a log together as a symbol of teamwork in marriage. Even more special? They used the same saw Felicity’s parents used at their wedding 20 years ago.
Even though the rain led many guests to leave a bit early, Felicity didn’t mind one bit. She was most excited about her couple’s portraits, and we carved out time just for that before the evening wrapped up. The light was dreamy, the umbrella shots were next-level romantic, and her muddy dress made for the best photos. Honestly, if you’re considering a rainy wedding, don’t stress because it makes for the most atmospheric and memorable images.

Before they left for their Charleston honeymoon (with a stop in Macon on the way), Felicity and Blake shared their first dances—bride and groom, father-daughter, and mother-son. Guests who stuck around danced under the soft misty light with muddy shoes and soaked hair, and it was one of the most heartwarming parts of the day. No one cared about the weather, they were just present and soaking in the joy.

The couple ended the night with a lavender toss wedding exit that smelled amazing and looked even better in photos. While we were doing portraits, Blake’s car got hilariously decorated by Felicity’s family—inside and out. It made for the perfect sendoff and so many laughs.

This day was proof that rain can’t ruin a wedding day, in fact, it made this one even more unforgettable. Every single detail, from the handmade desserts to the soaked drapery, was filled with intention and love. And as their wedding photographer in Wilsonville, Alabama, I was so honored to capture every last second of it.
